This week we meet with Dr Monica McCard, an invasive species and lionfish expert from Liverpool John Muir University, and Lisette Keus, the founder of Lionfish Caribbean. We talk about the invasion of Pterois species in to the Atlantic Ocean. We look at the scale of the problem and ask, can we stop the lionfish invasion?

Dr. Monica McCard
Dr. Monica McCard is a lecturer in environmental science at Liverpool John Muir University. Her research focuses on studying the spread and consequences of non native species, with a particular focus on the feeding impacts of lionfish (Pterois volitans). She works on generating knowledge which can directly inform conservation and management decisions.

Lisette Keus
Lisette began hunting for lionfish around Curacao in 2009 when she first began to realise the impact they were having on the reefs. She started small, selling them to local restaurants, and gradually built up Lionfish Caribbean as it is today, a thriving locally owned, sustainable business which invests in local people and protects the reef through sustained lionfish removal efforts.
